Sheynnis helped her mother prepare the buñuelos and helped her grandmother to prepare the nacatamales. In several interviews before, during and after her triumph, the "Diriambina" (means from Diriamba city) said she felt very proud of her humble origins because, thanks to the sales of these gastronomic products, she managed to pay part of her university studies.

Sheynnis' story is very common in Nicaragua, and that is precisely the strength that Miss Universe 2023 brings to the Nicaraguan population, who like her sell national products and dishes to live, study or pay for some household needs. Nicaraguans identify with her because Sheynnis comes "from below", comes from the people, and before traveling to El Salvador, she had the support of the entire population, without differences of race, ethnicity, religion or politics.
