The Philippines is surprised, but I am not. Miss Bulacan is Miss Universe Philippines 2024

28 May, 2024, No comments

The triumph of Chelsea Manalo, Miss Bulacan, has surprised many, I mean many, thousands of fans in the Philippines, and it is no wonder; the eyes of the followers of Miss Universe Philippines were on Ahtisa, representative of Quezon Province, and Alexis, representative of Iloilo City. Don't ask me why, because I don't know what arguments Filipino fans had to maximize these two candidates over several who did comply with absolutely everything that the most important beauty pageant in the world demands of its contenders.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that Miss Iloilo City and Miss Quezon Province have not been good candidates; it is simply that Miss Universe requires candidates with a natural charm, feminine, elegant, with the bearing and image of a queen, stage control, stage presence, and a forceful but measured catwalk and none of those acclaimed by the Filipino public met all those requirements. They were not the 'complete package".

That is why I will always recommend to my readers and followers to analyze the candidates and not get carried away by what others think, be yourselves and not be afraid to express yourself or recognize that your candidate is not always the one, but sometimes she is our favorite candidate sentimentally speaking.

By the way, I post my predictions on Facebook first, so you can follow me so you don't miss any and, Click Here! Let's find out more about the winner of the crown.

Who is Chelsea Manalo?

Chelsea is a young Filipino-American; she is 25 years old and began a successful modeling career at 14. She had already participated in national beauty pageants, such as Miss World Philippines 2017, where she managed to be part of the TOP15, but she could not advance further. She also participated in the reality show Global Asian Model Philippines in 2018, where she competed alongside other Filipinos to win the right to represent the country in an international competition with candidates from 20 Asian countries.

Her Social Project

The gorgeous queen has spoken openly about her lack of confidence in the past, due to the bullying she received as a teenager, for being a woman of color. Chelsea's social project is to provide support to young people from the indigenous communities of her country and make their problems visible through social networks and other media.

The winning answer

No one can deny that the beautiful Afro-Filipina gave the best response to the election and coronation night. Her beauty, bearing, intelligence, charisma, and modesty were, without a doubt, key factors for her today to wear the sash and the crown of the most important competition in her country.

The jury's question for her was: You are beautiful and confident. How will you use those qualities to empower others? And this was her response: "As a woman of color, I have always faced challenges in my life. I was told that beauty has standards, actually! But for me, I have always listened to and believed in my mother. Always believe in yourself, stay true to your values. Thanks to all this, I am already influencing many women who are facing me. As a transformative woman, I have 52 other delegates here with me who have helped me become the woman I am. Thank you ".

I recommend you read this note about Chelsea: My predictions were right, Miss Bulacan won Miss Universe Philippines 2024

I must highlight that Chelsea responded very naturally, with self-confidence, good diction, and an excellent tone of voice. Chelsea, you did it perfectly!

Historic Triumph

It is the first time in the Philippines' history that a woman of color is crowned Miss Universe Philippines, and I celebrate it, obviously! The Philippines chose a beautiful, intelligent, elegant young woman with an impressive bearing.

What did you think of Chelsea's choice? Will she be at the top of the Miss Universe 2024 competition, or do you think she could be crowned in Mexico by Sheynnis Palacios, our current Miss Universe? Leave your comment; you know I read them all.

All Details of Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Election

15 May, 2023, No comments

Miss Universe Philippines took place on Saturday, May 13, and the young woman who was the winner raised thousands of comments on social media. I just finished watching the show that lasted almost four hours and, I'd like to share everything that happened in this post, detail by detail.

Let's Start from the Beginning: The Opening

The 30 contestants of the edition walked on a large stage, colored black and dark blue, which all times showed the quality to which this Asian country has accustomed us; however, the choreography of the contestants during this moment of the show was very simple, with basic steps. The candidates lacked that dynamism, brightness, and energy that invites you to settle in to enjoy a stunning show. The organizers decided to dress them in black, let me tell you it didn't help at all either because they were obviously lost in the background, and it was not possible to distinguish them easily and when I thought that everything was going to improve, well... it did not improve, but it became more lacking in impact: the contestants pre-recorded their introduction, I could not believe it because it is iconic for a beauty queen to express her joy and pride by saying her name and the place she represents. I didn't like that part at all!

The Hosts

Nothing negative to say about all the hosts of the event. Xiam Lim, Alden Richards, Tim Yap, and Maureen Montagne shined like stars. Zozibibi Tunzi, Miss Universe 2019, was also a host, although she intervened very few times, but when she did, she made it clear that she is the queen of style, fashion and elegance. Zozi wore several evening gowns, three to be more exact, and all three were beautiful.

Did all the special prizes go to a single candidate?

For a moment I felt confused, and I did not understand what was happening, I saw the faces of the contestants in the background and that placed me in the context: All the special prizes were given to a contestant. Out of 30 beautiful Filipinas, only one won 10 awards, incredible! These special prizes are not related to the organization at all, since they are given by the sponsors of the event, and they were the ones who decided which contestant best fits their marketing strategy, but frankly... Out of 30 beautiful and well-prepared candidates, only one met their expectations? Bohol's candidate, Pauline Amelinckx was the lucky one to be selected by most of the brands; although (and thank God!) Pampanga, Mary Angelique Manto and Makati, Michelle Daniela Dee, also earned one or another special nomination. Pampanga took four and Makati won three. Good for them!

Miss Bohol, Pauline Amelinckx

The awards continued, and this time it was the organization's turn. They chose the Capiz contestant, Shayne Glenmae Maquiran as Miss Congeniality, while the representative of the province of Aguzan del Norte, Jannarie Sarsoso, was chosen as Miss Social Media. As a curious fact, in this part, the host gave the results in reverse, but he corrected his mistake very professionally and quickly (as Steve should have done in 2015, right Steve?).

 The Top 18

The moment to make the first cut was approaching with great emotion, twelve young people would stay dreaming of being one step closer to the crown, and 18, the vast majority chosen for being the best, would advance with a big smile: the first to be called to the top 18 was Aguzan del Norte, Jannarie Zarzoso who entered by direct pass after winning the Miss Glam challenge. The same case happened to Miss Bohol, Pauline Amelinckx who won the Miss Swimsuit challenge, and with the candidate from Bulacan, Princess Anne Marcos who won the Smiley challenge. The remaining 15 members of the top were: Pampanga, Mary Angelique Manto; Eastern Cebu, Airish Ramos; Makati, Michelle Daniela Dee; Parranaque, Clarielle Dacanay; Tiaong Quezon, Christiana Afia Yeboah; Sorsogon, Rein Hillary Carrascal; Mandaluyon, Bacolod Jan Marie Bordon; Sebu Province, Emmanuelle Fabienne Camcam; Marinduque, Christine Salcedo; Zambales, Christine Juliane Opiaza; Cavite, Samantha Alexandra Panlilio; Oriental Davao, Klyza Castro; Baguio, Krishnah Marie Pregnancy; Mandaluyong, Iman Francesca Cristal.

Swimsuit: Heart Attack Competition

Many Latinos consider that Asian women show their weaknesses in this part of the competition, but I must tell you that this group of Filipinas is far from making this myth come true. The young women showed off and showed us some amazing bodies, well-toned and with incomparable grace in most cases. In this part of the competition, my favorites were Aguzan del Norte, Pampanga, Tiaong Quezon, Sorsogon, Bacolod, Cebu, Zambales, and Cavita.

The jury chose the Baguio representative as the best in this competition. I confess that I did not see her winning. My top 3 were Sorsogon, Bacolod, and Zambales who I saw as the absolute winner in the swimsuit competition.

Miss Baguio, Winner of the Swimsuit Competition

Miss Bacolod

Miss Zambales

As a second curious fact, I tell you guys that the contestant for Aguzan del Norte, Jannarie Zarzoso, threw her cape during her swimsuit parade, and I didn't understand why! Apparently, her nerves and emotion got the better of her, and she didn't think about what the others would do to be able to walk, she didn't throw it anywhere, no! She left it in the middle of the catwalk, where the others would have to go. Very badly done!

Evening Gowns Parade

The parade in evening gown came as a surprise for everyone, including the finalists. It had been announced that after the swimsuit parade, the top 18 would be reduced to the top 10 and only those candidates would make the parade, but this was not the case. The host announced the change surprisingly: all the beautiful top 18 would parade in evening gowns, and then go directly to the cut of the top 5.

All the young women did a beautiful job in this part of the competition, but Makati, Pampanga, Aguzan del Norte, Cebu, Zambales, and Baguio caught my attention, being the best for me the beautiful representative of Zambales, but once the jury and I disagreed. They mentioned Makati as the winner in this category.

A musical intervention and two speeches separated us from knowing who would make it to the top 5. The new director took the stage to thank the support and to say that "Miss Universe Philippines is a platform that empowers and lifts, and invites us to celebrate the dreams we have in common". Minutes later, the beautiful R'Bonny Gabriel, current Miss Universe, appeared. She looked stunning with that hair and its perfect waves; her makeup was beautiful. Zozi had always shown us her good taste in fashion, and this time she didn't disappoint by wearing very fashionista evening gowns during the night.

They were the five finalists

And finally, the key moment arrived. Although there were no surprises, the top 5 were made up of the great favorites of the night competition: Baguio, Pampanga, Bohol, Zambales and Makati.

The jury decided that it would carry out two rounds of questions to all contestants equally; in the first round each one answered a different question; they all gave good answers, but I thought the answers from Baguio and Pampanga were the best; both responded with honesty, warmth and a lot of security. Baguio was asked if she thought trans women should participate in sports activities along with born women, and she replied that they shouldn't. Remember that "Aunt Anne" (Anne Jakrajutatip, owner of the Miss Universe brand is a trans woman and attended the event) and well, I don't think she was very pleased to hear that answer.

The second round of questions was the same for all five girls: The Philippine Tourism Board has just launched an international tourism campaign, what is the best the Philippines has to offer the world? In this round, Bohol and Makati were the best. Both responded forcefully. The weakest answer was that of Zambales who, deviating a lot from the question, gave me the impression she did not understand what she was asked.

This is how the winner and her honor roll emerged: the second runner-up was the representative from Pampanga, the first runner-up was Zambales, the representative from Baguio got the crown of Miss Charm Philippines (she was crowned in another ceremony because Miss Universe now demands exclusivity) the representative of Bohol was named Miss Supranational Philippines (also named at another moment) and the winner of the right to represent the Filipinos in Miss Universe 2023 to be held in El Salvador was the representative of Makati.

Who should have won?

There are always likes and dislikes in a beauty pageant. I saw Zambales win from the beginning to the end, but she didn't give the best answers. Makati also stood out throughout the night, and no one can doubt that she was one of the best in the entire competition. She represents the majority of the friendly, hard-working, and determined young women who will surely identify more and more with her towards the Miss Universe contest. From my blog, I support Makati and I will follow her trajectory towards Miss Universe. Congratulations to her and all her fans!

Miss Grand Thailand 2023 was crowned Last Night

1 May, 2023, No comments

The young woman made her second attempt to conquer the crown and succeeded. In 2017, she participated for the first time, making it to the top 3, but she could not achieve her goal. 6 years later and better prepared and with some physical changes, Thaweeporn returned to the Miss Grand Thailand stage and conquered the long-awaited crown, one of the most important in this beautiful Asian country.

Top 5

The top 5 were very close, but only representatives from the cities of Phrae (named 4th runner-up), Chumphon (title winner), Bangkok (named 2nd runner-up), Puket (named 1st runner-up), and Loei (named 3rd runner-up) made it. The lucky ones to integrate it (see photo, from left to right).

Special Prizes

Miss Grand Thailand is known for delivering many prizes; This year the organization together with the sponsors delivered 29 prizes. The winners of the most outstanding awards were: Best Fantasy Costume: Modeled by Pimjira Charoenluk from Bangkok. Which by the way gave me great joy since it was the costume that I had as THE BEST of the 77 beautiful designs. Miss Photogenic and Miss Popular Vote: Ajcharee Srisuk from Loei City.

Best in Swimsuit: Awarded to Pimjira Charoenluk from Bangkok City.

Best Evening gown: Chanyathida Matiyapak from Pattani City.

The Event Host

I cannot finish this note without mentioning how well the presenter of the event was, the handsome Matthew Deane, who in addition to looking sexy and very elegant, also showed us his fashionista side by changing his wardrobe three times and fascinated even more when he got in fully in the Grand format and give us a show; Matthew was lifted several meters off the ground during the opening of the event.

The Miss Grand Thailand evening was an exciting night that undoubtedly left a good taste in the mouths of Thai fans and fans of Thai queens around the world. The pageant was broadcast on the YouTube channel Miss GrandTV and at the time of writing this note (with much love for all of you) it had accumulated 5,300,000 views.

From my blog, I greet and congratulate all the winners and of course the queen, I hope to see her at the Miss Grand International 2023 concentration, fighting for that crown.
